Doing well

Tuesday was a good day, dog walk, brunch, meeting, grocery, dishes, put some stuff away. Lots of rain, I was hoping it would dump it all and be nice Wednesday, and that's what happened. We reconnoitered some hiking trails and went down some back roads in the truck, and spent lots of time just poking around. Emo had a good day.

I found some good hiking. It's hunting season, and there are also multi-use trails in the Sam Houston Nat'l Forest. But, I found a bunch of trail systems adjoining the Lone Star Hiking Trail in and around the Little Lake Wilderness. Wilderness means hiking only, and no hunting. I just checked out the LSHT guide and made some calculations, and put together a nice 6 mile loop. We stopped along the trails at a few remote dirt road intersections, and the trails looked to be in good shape, some deadfalls, but they are only skinny pine trees.

There are also some closed forest Service roads that will make for excellent hiking. Despite hunting season, I think we will have plenty of day hiking loops to keep us occupied for the two weeks remaining here.

I also looked at the map around the Thousand Trails Preserve at Colorado River, near Columbus, Texas. There are state parks within an hour's drive with nice trails. I think we will land there next for a full 3 weeks. That will take us up to Feb. 8. I need to be back in Ohio for an appointment March 21st.
