We had a nice 5 mile or so hike yesterday, and I finally took the camera. Click on the pictures to make them bigger. Nothing special to take pictures of, just a nice hike in the piney woods. I constructed a loop hike that used part of the Lone Star Hiking Trail in the Little Lake Creek Wilderness.
We entered from the trailhead off Forest Service road 211, which according to the Lone Star Hiking Trail Club's guide is 3.4 miles in. This trailhead allowed us to directly enter the Wilderness area. We kept the LSHT and found it to be well maintained, and well signed. Here at the first intersection, I decided to go counterclockwise around my loop, continuing on the LSHT.
I've passed plants like this several times, I don't know what they are, but they add some nice green color to the woods in winter.
There are several small bridges, and some boardwalks over low areas. Of course, Emo dog had a great day. Today he has an appointment at Bed, Bath, and Biscuit to get washed, nails clipped, ears cleaned, and generally pampered.
We hiked the LSHT about 3 miles to Forest Service road 231, which is closed. This road is at the edge of the wilderness area, we hiked the road a little over a mile to the intersection with the North Wilderness Trail.
The North Wilderness Trail is about 1.4 miles or so back to the trailhead, so we went a little over 5 miles. My legs were weary, we had hiked a good ways 3 days ago, maybe the old man needs more time to recover. Or more frequent hikes to get back in shape. Emo did very well, he was a little stiff last night, but seems fine today.
Looks like rain here this weekend, and cooler. Yesterday and today, great weather, blue skies, temps in the high 60's, perfect for hiking. I guess I'll wait until later next week to do another nice day hike.
